Stallion Style

O.k. Bad title. But, the hubby and I signed up for a race this weekend. It should be pretty low key and entertaining to say the least. You get to burst out of the Canterbury Park starting gate and run the 5K on the turf followed by a relatively flat cross-country course. Here is where I get concerned...

The hubby is an ex-cross country star. He was really good (and consequently, really fast!). I want to keep up with him on Saturday. That is my goal. He ran our normal (by normal, I mean on pavement) 5K route Monday morning and clocked in at 21.27 minutes. By my calculations, that is under a 7 minute mile. When he showed me the watch when he got home, I got scared.

So, I laced up my trusty shoes and started the 50-foot walk to official start of our homemade 5K route. Here goes nothing, I thought.

The first 2.5 miles were just fine. I reached the half-way point in under 11 minutes so I felt revived thinking that I could do this! By the last 1/2 mile, my legs were on fire! My breathing was a bit heavier than normal (this has been drastically affected by the spin class I have been attending...makes running feel easy on the heart!) but I pushed through and finished in 21.51. That is the fastest run I have ever completed in my life, but at least I know I (keep your fingers crossed for me) can hopefully keep up with the hubby on Saturday.

Now, the big question remains...can we keep these times if we are running on 5-inch thick turf and an off-pavement course? I. Have. No. Idea.

HOLY COW! Girl you were BOOKING!! I am blown away. I think the fastest I've ever run a 5K is 26 minutes and I thought I was gonna die! Good luck on Saturday, you're going to kill it!
